Richard Smith knows that good architecture can positively impact his clients’ lives.

He’s experienced this first-hand, having designed two homes for his own family. And he’s seen countless other clients enjoy the same delightful and tangible improvements to their lives, over the past two decades.

Richard was born in Sydney and graduated from Sydney University in Architecture in 2000. Soon after, he joined the Northern Beaches office of Peter Stutchbury Architecture (previously Stutchbury and Pape), where he worked for 10 years as project architect and later Senior Associate – an experience that was incredibly creative, high-pressured and immensely rewarding.

He established his own firm – Architectsmith – in 2011. Every home he designs is different, because each responds to the unique wants and needs of the clients Richard collaborates with.

Over the course of his career, Richard has worn many hats – architect, owner-builder, project manager and client – and he has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience, culminating in the recent design and construction of his own family home in Avalon.

Chisholm House was a five-year process from initial design through to council approval and construction, and Richard was intimately involved as architect, project manager and labourer.

With his deep understanding of all facets of the design and construction process, and as the single point of contact at Architectsmith, Richard provides his expertise and highly personalised service to clients who see the immediate value and long-lasting benefits in creating an architect-designed home.
